Re: L1GHT Shadow

Thanks for the nice words guys, I really appreciate it. The dark side definitely tastes good. What you guys do is truly inspirational, not just in the rockets you build and fly but also in the huge effort you put in behind the scenes to make rocketry such a great sport in Australia for the rest of us.

Re: 1st April Mullaley HPR Launch Photos

Bingo :D It was impossible to see the black rocket in the shadows on a small phone screen controlling the drone. Had it been a brighter colour it would have been much easier to locate.

1st April Mullaley HPR Launch Photos

Here are some photos from the last NSWRA launch at Mullaley. We had a reasonable turnout with quite good weather, although a little windy it wasn't too bad. The crops were nice and short so easy to find rockets. I was there only on the Saturday so these pictures are from that day, though apparently ...

Re: L1GHT Shadow

Nice one George. Congrats. I look forward to seeing what water rocket you use for your L2 8) Cheers SpaceManMat, that is the long term goal. :D While we could put a 38mm J in this rocket, I think we would need to upgrade the front end structurally. We will most likely build a new rocket with a 54mm...

Re: L1GHT Shadow

At the recent Mullaley HPR launch we finally had a chance to fly this rocket on "proper" motors. :D The first flight was our L1 certification flight on a CTI H-120 and the second was a H-125. I really liked both of these motors. Here is a video of those two flights: K07TM7cuvMQ Here is the...

Re: Xiaomi Yi - A budget GoPro alternative?

Thanks for posting the link to the 4K camera. It certainly looks like it has some nice specs at a reasonable price. The slow motion options look like they have good frame sizes. 120fps for full HD (1080p) and 240fps (720p)

Re: Behaviour of Liquids near-Zero G

Thanks Dave and Marty. @SpaceManMat That would be a fun one to do - a couple of small solid motors accelerating the stack before staging. Getting the timing right would be tricky as you don't get a whole lot of coast time with water rockets. :)

Re: Behaviour of Liquids near-Zero G

SpaceManMat wrote:Are you actually looking for ways to stage water rockets with a coast period?

Ha Ha, not intentionally :D ... but it is something that we have seen happen to others and accidentally have done it ourselves when the staging mechanism didn't activate at burnout but some time later.

Behaviour of Liquids near-Zero G

Last month we did an experiment to see how liquids behave in flight. We filled a couple of tubes with liquids (one had water + air and the other had water + oil) and attached them inside a nosecone. We then mounted a camera on a bracket so that we could film them during flight. The whole experiment ...

Looking good David! I can see the sanding part is going to get messy. Will you do that by hand or use some power tool?
