Re: Stability, nose weight, and fin size at mach 1+ speeds

laminated to the hardware. Watch the coefficients of thermal expansion differences if you do this. I suspect they will bite. Thats a very good point. The thermal expansion rate of the aluminium hardware will be roughly 6 times that of the carbon fibre skin. Even if it doesnt fail on the first fligh...

Re: Stability, nose weight, and fin size at mach 1+ speeds

I have built an extremely thin tailcone out of carbon fibre recently and can share a little bit of info regarding. My piece was only two layers thick and measured at roughly 0.8mm sidewall. This was hand laid and not vacuum bagged so you may be able to get a thinner wall, but I found it was noticeab...

Re: Pocket Rocket Build

I forgot to add, total weight for the bottom half of the pocket rocket is 27g at this point, a fair bit less than the predicted 34g. Every gram i lose below the CP is another gram i can add above it to increase stability, meaning I can shave a little off the length off my fin tips. Smaller fins = le...

Re: Pocket Rocket Build

A small update and some pics. The struggle to get a particular single 29mm F motor i need into Oz is proving to be a difficult issue, so motivation is at an all time low. At this point im planning on maybe moving to a 24mm instead, but i wont let that get in the way of finishing this one haha. This ...

Re: Alternative Launch Methods

I like the concept of the Mythbusters style vacuum ping pong ball cannon. Obviously this would have to be a "first stage" and then air start the "second stage"... problems that come to mind are making a rocket with required electronics etc small enough that you don't have to hav...

Alternative Launch Methods

Has anyone looked into more 'unique' launch towers? Ive had the idea to build a vacuum assisted launching tower for a little while and just wondering if it or any otger iterations been tried? There are plenty of feasible ways to extend apogee; mass drivers, rockoons, etc,. Anyone have any info regar...

Re: Full Scale Patriot PAC-1 Missile

Outta curiousity, what do you put the maximum payload at for this beast?

On a completely unrelated note, i weigh 70ish kilos with a parachute on and have a healthy love for adrenalin rushes.
