Re: North Coast Rocketry 2 new builds..

As I mentioned in an earlier post its worth considering e-matches.

J-Teks seem to give a much more energetic ignition and they are insulated, which is helpful when wiring up a cluster.

The recommended minimum current is only 1 amp each (nominal firing current is 1.25 amps).

Re: Horizon - 2 Stage Water Rocket

Great to see that Horizon is still progressing, that you are still learning as you go.......and you are still listening to your dad! And what a great endorsement for Jolly Logic and your soldering skills that you were able to discover Nova's altitude after all that time. Amazing! Did you ever work o...

Those fins alone are almost enough to justify buying a laser cutter. :D

Re: North Coast Rocketry 2 new builds..

Yeah Sri brad, ignition will be my biggest concern . I building a 7 point loom to.make it easier.and hopefully more likely to light all 7 motors. I have very limited experience with clusters, but I did lots of reading. Its seems that its all about the igniters. So I use e-matches and they seem to w...

Re: Cluster Duck

If the ejection charge due to 3 motors is excessive, you could replace one (or more) of the D12-5s with a D12-7. You didn't put any superglue on the Kevlar, did you? I did fly it with 2 x D12-5 and 1 x D12-7 because that was all I had. :D But it looked like the charges vent off quite close together...

Re: Cluster Duck

The Duck had another flight recently are CRG's Ardelthan launch. It was a lovely day and the Duck looked very stable again. Amazing for a rocket with such a low stability margin (0.7x). https://i.ibb.co/G52Qrjv/Duck-3.jpg https://i.ibb.co/myh1nxp/Duck-2.jpg https://i.ibb.co/d68pX8Z/Duck.jpg Unfortun...

I think Tripoli would be worth investigating.

QRS is now a Tripoli prefecture.

Re: Derek's Level 2 Build

The Angry Bee flew again last weekend. This time on an i205W. It was a lovely day for a perfect flight, straight up and down. Thanks to CRG for hosting us. https://i.ibb.co/xSJPWV4/796O5509.jpg https://i.ibb.co/ph9VzYw/796O5511.jpg https://i.ibb.co/FbCvkB6/796O5513.jpg https://i.ibb.co/Kz6rX2Z/796O5...

Re: Cluster Duck

The Duck's maiden flight went well. E-matches lit all 3 of the D12-5 motors and it took off nice straight. Parachute deployed very close to apogee. https://i.ibb.co/ZGLrXFf/796O5440.jpg https://i.ibb.co/0ty61mk/796O5442.jpg https://i.ibb.co/cksJ3P9/796O5443.jpg It looked stable and the ring that hol...

Re: The Ultimate Buzz

It’s a nice looking kit. So is that the 54 or 75 mm version? As a bigger kit I take it you’ll be dual deploy? Any details on the avionics? The 75mm version is shown in the photo, but I also have 54mm centering rings, motor mount tube and motor retainer. I think I will probably go with 75mm and keep...

Re: The Ultimate Buzz

I am still missing a few extra bits and pieces, but here is a look at most of the kit. Pepsi can for scale. https://i.ibb.co/R7QXbkK/Kit.jpg I was excited to discover that the forward body tube and the motor mount tube have both been supplied longer than advertised. A nice bonus that gives me a bit ...

Re: Overstated Stability in Split Fin Designs

What happens if you build them as a single fins with a little tab join the 2 parts? Good idea. Seperate fins = stability 1.63 x https://i.ibb.co/YdC8fhW/Screen-Shot-2021-05-25-at-11-43-35-am.png Fins joined with a little tab = stability of 0.947 https://i.ibb.co/84LnmN7/Screen-Shot-2021-05-25-at-11...
