Re: What is your project for Thunda Down Under 2015?

What's the plan for the 400,000Ns flight? Cluster 5 O motors staged to another 5 O motors, or just the single S motor?

Re: What is your project for Thunda Down Under 2015?

I may bring one or two LPR birds - my latest build (if I can get it painted in time) would be my first cluster rocket... but it seems so tiny compared with the projects people are talking about here! I'll be confining my flights entirely to the lower third of the lowest flight level available. Speak...

Re: Intrest in a AMRS recognised Melbourne club

Have ordered Skidmarks especially for it. I plan to lose, but to have fun doing so.

Re: Intrest in a AMRS recognised Melbourne club

Only a swathe of grass that was never quite the same again - it always had a certain extra spark.

Re: Intrest in a AMRS recognised Melbourne club

I also couldn't get the poll to work, but...

I'm a TRA/TRAAU member, but would happily also join AMRS if that would facilitate setting up (and more importantly, insuring) a regular LPR/MPR/?HPR launch site closer to Melbourne.

Re: Places to Launch in the Melbourne Metro Area

Oh, that's disappointing. No to anyone using it for any rockets, or just organised things? I'm curious what local laws were at issue, but I guess if it's council land, the council can make whatever random rules they like.

Pity - it looked promising.

Re: Places to Launch in the Melbourne Metro Area

Probably it's worth checking out: we wouldn't be able to launch anything bigger than an H anyway due to minimum site dimensions (350m), so perhaps we should: - call the City of Casey to check that they're happy for us to launch there (marty, are you happy to do that?) - if so, arrange a trial LPR/MP...

Re: Places to Launch in the Melbourne Metro Area

Correct me if I'm wrong - my understanding is that we'd need specific CASA approval to launch HPR there (or anywhere), but LPR/MPR we can do as long as the owner of the land is happy for us to do it (and we stay below controlled airspace).

Re: Places to Launch in the Melbourne Metro Area

That looks pretty good to me! The main challenge seems to be how much of the time the track is booked. However, Sunday afternoons look to be clear. Since we wouldn't be using the track itself, I don't think a separate booking would be required if it's just a few of us showing up to launch some rocke...

Re: Places to Launch in the Melbourne Metro Area

Otherwise, the airspace situation there looks pretty good - floor of CTA is 8500' (and you're not hitting that with anything less than HPR), and it's more than 5nm from all surrounding airfields (Tooradin is the closest aerodrome as far as I can see). I'd be really interested to know what the terrai...

I ordered everything I can't fly in Victoria: greens and sparkies :) G through J... will run on existing stocks for the smaller ones.

Re: ARTDU2015 motor order - 10% discount

Quick question: will motors that are currently listed as "available for backorder" be available for this order, or only motors listed as "in stock"? Also, is there any chance of CTI's new "Mellow" motors being available? Those burn times look phenomenal.

Re: Anyone up for a launch in a couple of weeks time?

Heh - I just realised my last post on this was a couple of years ago. :) I did go down to Altona one day with the intention of launching, but I'm not so sure it's a good idea: the problem is not with space (land or air), but rather with the terrain. The ground is covered with low, dense scrubby succ...

Re: places to stay

CATO, since you've been to the launch site, could you share a Google Maps pin or a lat/long so all of us currently completely in the dark can be slightly less so? I'll check out the Westmar Roadhouse and the Royal - have a whole family to accommodate (with the possibility of another friend and his k...
