Moving to Meteor-M 2

Postby drew » Wed Aug 18, 2021 10:45 am

So given my success with NOAA APT decoding I've moved to Meteor-M 2. As mentioned previously, this satellite transmits LRPT (Low Resolution Picture Transmission) images which are color (RGB) and higher resolution (1 sq km per pixel). The signal is QPSK but once I sorted out my software stack and live decode settings via SatDump getting an image is achievable.

Good morning Western Australia!!!

And here's the SatDump UI during the pass. Very clean QPSK constellation imo. :D

Looks like Sunday will be the next time I get a reasonable elevation daylight pass. Can't wait to pull another pic!

Also, I'm looking to move to L-Band in the near future. There's a lot of interesting signals in that band coming from above.

Had another good pass this morning. Started at ~7am AWST. 74.5° max elevation.
