April 25th Update

On Saturday, I spent some time with a friend at his factory - he runs a shop fitting business - and started work on the bed supports and seats.

And on Sunday I took a trip to the local Sunday market to get some decals and Autobarn for pinstripe tape.

I spent today dodging the rain to get everything stuck on :)

Mission Control build update 6th May.

I managed to spend another day in the factory and with a lot of help (well, I did a lot of supervising) built the seats!

You can also see the genuine vinyl wood flooring ;)

The seat bases lift up to allow for heaps of storage in the boxes!!

Image

The end of each seat has storage for a jerrycan - one side is water and the other is diesel. Just in case.

Image

The TV is up and running!

Image

2 x lighter sockets and 2 x USB chargers.

A little over 2 weeks before I leave and I still don't have a bed!! Argh!!!

Getting close now. You'll make it (with a few late nights)!

Are you going for the table that drops down to fill the gap between the seats and forms the base for the bed concept?

Yeah, just a bit stressful at the moment, but will get there :) And if the seat boxes don't get carpet on them before I leave, it's no big drama.

Nope! The bed will go on the top of the seat backrests! I thought about turning the seats into a bed but this restricted access to the boxes on each side as well as reduce storage. If it was going to be a regular camper, that's the way I would do it - but since this is going to lug rockets around, I needed space where fins etc. would fit.

For the trip to Perth and back, the bed will remain in place. In fact, it will be bolted down so if we manage to crash into something (worst-case scenario ) we won't be decapitated - turning what may well be a minor accident into a major one. That could be ugly!

With the bed in place, we can access the storage in the seats.

Wowee, thats looking very neat now! If you haven't already, make sure you round the edges of those seats or you're going to do yourself an injury sitting on them for any period of time!

I'm picking up foam for the seat bases tomorrow night - they'll be nice and squishy when I finish!! Once the foam is on and all upholstered, you will be able to sit on them all day long :)

I have already stuck the foam on the backs. Did that last night but Clark Rubber was out of the seat foam.

With that much glue, new foam, and new carpet in the back, you might be best off to remove the windscreen and rear doors until you get to Adelaide!

Mission Control build update 12th May.

Well, the seats are all but done!! I picked up the last of the foam on Friday night and have been busy learning how to do upholstery. I think I did ok :) They almost look like bought ones!!

The bed base got built today, too! A little more work to get it all fitted, photos tomorrow :)

Looks like its taking shape quite nicely! This decals look good, but I feel the external appearance isn't quite complete, may I suggest a few minor additions:
