Looking good, how easy was it to get it in place?

One thing that does concearn me is the depth of those spirals. It's a bit hard to tell, but perhaps you need to fill them otherwise it may come through the FG or worse you won't be able to get the thing off?

the Raytheon/Lockheed-Martin "crates" are quite short - is that because the motors in the "real" Patriot come up to full thrust quicker or because they have control surfaces or...?

Hi Matt, the coupler was a little harder to mate than the airframe tube as the coupler tube was more out of round due to me having to reduce the dia (2 minutes to mate the airframe, 15 minutes to mate the coupler). I'm sure I will need to smooth out some surface imperfections (let’s face it, they don’t treat these things well as their intended use doesn’t warrant it), the coupler form tube has been cut lengthwise and rejoined to fit inside the airframe form tube so some work is required to smooth out this join. I will be wrapping the tube(s) in 2 (maybe 3) layers of “GLAD BAKE” paper (Use only GLAD BAKE), so hopefully any tube spirals will not be an issue.

The internal skin of the first frame has be constructed (4hrs), the wall thickness is 2mm consisting of 5 layers of 295gsm 4-Harness Satin Weave glass. The weight of the glass was 4kgs, this was matched at a ratio of 1:1 with epoxy (Araldite LY 3600). The tubes will be constructed with a Corecell M80 perforated 3mm inter-layer (hopefully constructed shortly).

Not many people around can handle layups like that! Also completely agree with the sequencing of the layers.
I haven't used the perforated CoreCell yet, so please let me know your thoughts.

Hi George and David,

The mixing of the epoxy (10 x 400g) "as you go" was no issue what so ever. The hardest issue I faced was to hold the first and second layers of cloth in place whilst applying the epoxy. The issue was the circumference of the tube (1,292mm) is larger than the width of the glass (1,270mm) the cloth being laid lengthwise could not be pulled over itself (over lapped) and pulled tight, this made the layup take longer than expected as extra care was required but it really wasn't that hard.

Just as a point of interest, you do get cloth widths if 1350, 1500 and I'm sure others... I'll call to discuss for the next big layup job...

Had a few hrs to spare this afternoon, the M80 3mm corecell has been applied to the first tubes internal skin as per the Cryoscum method http://ausrocketry.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=2631&start=50.
