Simulation of a rocket (mis-aligned thrust)

Postby joeman » Thu Feb 11, 2016 7:54 pm

Hello All,
Thought I'd write up a java application to show what happens to a rocket when there is a slight mis-alignment with the direction of thrust.

Also decided to try and code in a guidance system that attempts to counteract the mis-alignment. (Moving the CG laterally)

Have a look if you wish. All files are at:-

You need to install the java 3d libs...
Obviously you need Java installed...1.6 or newer is probably okay...most people have this if they use OpenRocket

The simulation ignores aerodynamic forces...which are obviously important, but good to get a a bit of an idea.

Cheers
Joe

Interesting, will check it out. Were you contemplating some physical implementation?
I can't wait to see OTTs vertical stabilisation system fly this year.

OpenRocket is JOGL, but I do like Java3D... is it still maintained?

I did a Java wrapper for QuickDraw 3D years ago which is a similar library... closest thing "contemporary" that I've played with is OpenSceneGraph but I'm not sure it has any Java wrappers.

well I can report it runs OK on Kubuntu with the Java3d 1.5.2 out of the repository (with mesa/radeon backend) and OpenJDK version 1.7.0...

no source?

Cool.

Find any major issues? Let me know...or clone and push updates.

Yes, I intend on trying a real-life implementation. Starting to plan it now.

Will hopefully have some of the electronics as part of L2 attempt....though not the whole implementation.
