Oh boy, going to fly this at QRS anytime?

What's the launch tower / rail plan on this?

Mat, this one is staying in WA on a permanent basis, so I doubt it'll fly at QRS anytime soon. Maybe out at Westmar at some point in the future?
It'll use just a standard 1515 rail with careful placement of the buttons...

I drew the tip mould up early this morning in CAD and 3D printed it (took several hours to print). Late this afternoon I fixed the mould to the NC, turned it upside down, poured 3.5kg of lead shot, several handfuls of chopped carbon strand and 275g of epoxy into the NC and then stuck an M10 SS eye bolt with big washer in the mix for a fixing point.
The shot and epoxy were preheated and the whole lot set very quickly without melting the mould. (That would have been bad!)
After it set a few light hammer taps saw it come off without hassle.

Almost there.
Just the AV-bay tonight and some final bits-and-pieces (shock chords, rail buttons etc).
The white checker pattern will have to wait until we're in WA as I am now pretty much out of time.

Hi Mat. That IS the daytime shot :) The weather over here is horrible. Wet, cold and dark...
Will get some more shots when the weather is better (maybe Saturday).

Sorry typo, the curse of mobile computing. Was supposed to say "on the day".

Video would be nice too, I assume there will be plenty of people to help out in that regards:)

Looking good Nic! If it flies half as good as it looks it will be a great spectacle :D

That's beautiful work Nic. 8) I'm always amazed at how quick you put these big birds together.

Thank you, gents :)
As for speed, desperate times call for desperate measures. Only had a few weeks to do this and failure to get it done on time is no option...

The AV Bay is the last item and I started after lunch on it, noting that work got neglected and I'll likely pay for that tomorrow...

Started by designing the odd shaped donut-style AV bay and modeled it up.

It contains the usual 2xRavens and 1x Beeline GPS running on a single cell 3400mAh Li-Ion. "Pull-the-pin-and-walk-away" micro switch arrangement.

Then extracted the pieces from the model and cut them from 4mm aircraft grade birch ply.

And after installing the various T-nuts, threaded rod etc and a bit of 5min epoxy, this is what we have:

Need to wire it up and then do the shock chords/chutes tomorrow...

You could always build a second one for the East coast :D
