The Queensland Rocketry Society Inc (QRS) is celebrating its 10 year anniversary this March and we would like to invite all interested people and members of the Australian rocketry community to our launch.

This is an advertised launch so we expect a good number of spectators. There will be a sausage sizzle and cold drinks available for purchase, so bring your rockets and have some fun!

LAUNCH DETAILS

Date: Sunday 12th March 2017

Range Closed: 1300.

* If your membership is not current on the day, you will not be able to launch.
* HPR rocketeers will need to provide evidence of a current QLD explosives licence.

Launch Report.

With fairly warm weather and little cloud cover the March advertised open day launch attracted a slightly smaller crowd than normal. Despite this there were still 62 launches for the morning including 29 launches with the increasingly popular Fly it, Take it program. Almost no wind until right before pack up provided ideal flying conditions.

Impulse ranges for the day were — 8 x A (+29 FITI), 2 x B, 4 x C, 5 x D, 2 x F, 4 x G, 6 x H, 2 x K. It was also good to see two clusters and three staged rockets.

Aldo Tummarello achieved his L1 certification with his rocket “Phobos”, flying on CTI H410 V Max. Well done Aldo.

Mark O'Donoghue was once again the most prolific launcher with 6 flights, also having both the smallest (A3-4) and largest motors (K675 SK) of the day.
Mike Ritter launched his unique single finned rocket “One Zee” on an Aerotech G-64 for a successful second flight.
Caelum Niejalke successfully launched his unique “X-Wing” in a new cluster setup with 4 B6-4 motors complimenting a central C6-5.

It was good to see students and teachers from two of our educational memberships, with 5 launches from Loganlea State High School and 5 launches from Lutheran Ormeau Rivers District School.

A big thanks to all of the volunteers who attended to help setup, pack up and operate the BBQ.

Was a great launch. Thanks for everyone who helped out.

I do think something is wrong with your impulse count Digit. Total impulse the the X Wing was an E (28Ns).

My apologies, I accidentally counted that as a C.

I also failed to mention Rob and Robbie were presented their LCO certificates at the launch. Congratulations guys.

We had a slow start but boy did it get busy......as a LCO for the first 2.5 hours I sure was kept busy which is a good thing.

Crowds were down to the one's we have come to expect at QRS but still a good crowd with many new comers to the launch.

Weather was just about perfect as can be except for the heat......been long hot summer here in South East QLD.

Congrats to Aldo on his L1...it went off with a bang ! 8)

Matt's Starfighter was really awesome.....went up straight as can be and all motors lit up in unison. Well done Matt. :P

Congrat's to Rob and Robbie on their achievement ! :D

Mark O's V2 sure looked impressive with K Sparky power. Beaut launch indeed.

Thank's to all who again helped on the day. Without your help guys days like these would not happen.

Highlights for me were:
  • Lachlan's and Robin's stella job looking after the "Fly it, Take it" program
  • Mark's V2 flight
  • All the volunteers who pitched-in despite the heat

Congrats to all who certified - LCOs and L1
Nice work guys 8)

Thanks Ari for the effort as LCO great as always. Splitting off an extra low power pad for the Fly it Take it program worked really well I thought.

Really wish I could have stayed for the V2, unfortunately kids have a bazillion things on this year so need to leave early. Look forward to seeing footage though, have to wait for Crom to post it...
