I’ll be there, mainly because I am on LCO duty. This will be my first shift and I’m looking forward to being at the controls.

I am hoping to send my Callisto up on an H for the Level 1 Certification. The main reason for holding back is the lack of tracking hardware.

Do I need to arrange anything before hand with QRS or is it just on the day? From what i could see on rocketry.org.au there isn’t a test, etc..

Obviously I will bring along the simulations and happy the rocket has successfully flow before.

From my experience you just need to fill out an application form on the day and have Blake witness the preparation, flight and recovery.

Blake should have a copy of the form and they are also available on the AMRS website.

Does the club still have the RF beacon for members to use on a flight? I noticed a post on the forums when looking at tracking options.

PS: I am a licensed Amateur Radio operator if that was a requirement.

The callisto on the H is likely to be be around 1800ft with the standard 24” parachute. so shouldnt be airborne too long (50sec or so). With a bit of luck it wont be too windy up there :-).

Hi Andrew, I wouldn’t be too worried about losing your rocket. I have launched several rockets to around 2,000 ft and they always land within a few hundred metres of the launch pad. They only worry is the cornfield.

I am also a licensed Amatuer radio operator. I have ordered a bigredbee RF transmitter and hope to receive it soon.

See you on Sunday.

Hi Brad,

Thats always good to hear. The wife has told me, repeatedly, that if I lose “another” rocket no more.... yikes.

The “lost rocket” was a tiny cardboard, unpainted, 18mm MD worth no more than $10.. it failed to deploy the streamer and ended in the longer grass towards the gate.

I guess what goes up always comes down.

See you Sunday,
Andrew

LAUNCH POSTPONEMENT

For the first time in QRS’ history, we have to postpone this Sunday’s launch (19/08/2018) due to total fire bans across South East Queensland announced yesterday. The ban is currently in place until early next week. Depending on the weather, this may change, however we will send notifications accordingly.

Just to confirm the next date will be Sunday 26/08/2018.

AUGUST 2018 LAUNCH CANCELLED - FIRE ONE WEEK/HEAVY RAIN THE NEXT

It is with great disappointment that for only the second time in QRS’ history, we have to cancel a launch.

Unfortunately the weather folk got it right for a change and it has been pouring since before 4am.

The next launch will be in two weeks, 09 September 2018.

We will endeavour to hold another special launch within the next two weeks for the university students who need to certify for the AURC. This will be discussed shortly.

For some good news, our friends at the Melbourne Amateur Rocketry Society had impeccable weather yesterday, which is a pleasant change for Victoria. In addition, Cran and the team at It’s Rocket Science Adventures has also been afforded the opportunity to refuel.
