I left a couple of 38mm 3G motor cases and spacers on the field after the last launch (motor retention melted)... If you find some let me know...

Were they on the flight line, or actually IN the field?

Great day for flying rockets with a dust devil sweeping through mid morning that took flight cards to a higher altitude than some of the rockets!

Total flight count for the day was 47 made up of: 4 x A, 3 x B, 16 x C, 4 x D, 3 x F, 7 x G, 5 x H, 2 x I, 3 x J

Highlights include:

    Troy's Task Force X flying on A, B and C motors
Matt's tumble recovery Estes Port-a-Loo flying three times on C6-3 motors - the delay was still too long....
    Gregory Estes "2 Stage" on C -> C motors
Brendan's beautifully finished Bumble Vee V2 rocket flying on a D12 motor
The return of Larry flying his Mariah 38 twice: first on a G88 motor and then on a H135 motor
Jeff getting confused and ending up at the launch site with a rocket and motors: flying Scruffy on H123 and I180 motors
Scalded Cat award goes to Paul with his Ballistic Pineapple on an H550 motor to 3500 feet

Largest motor of the day was a threeway tie with J400SS motors:
Aidan's Maximum Effort to 3200 ft
Brad's Silver Bullet to 4800 ft
    Cam's Muhammad Ali 4928 ft

Big congratulations to Cam and Aidan who successfully completed their L2 certs with these flights!

Thank you to everyone who helped out on the day with pack up, set up, RSO and LCO. Big thanks to Brad who did a great job on LCO duties.

See you next month!

Really nice to be able to make it today. Thanks all involved in setting up.

Congrats on the certification flights.

I had an interesting flight with the Flying Dutchman. I had a CTI G185-12 that I wanted to drill to a 9 second delay. I set the tool to -3 seconds but noticed that the drill tool hardly touched the delay grain. I checked it with 2 other delay tools but it didn’t make any difference. After check the simulations I decided that a 12 second delay would not be an issue. Launch went well, at apogee the rocket went into a tumble for around about 3 seconds before the chute was ejected.

As far as I can tell the issues was that the delay grain was recessed too far into the forward closure. So always check that you drill the hole as deep as you expect, especially if your rocket is sensitive to a late deployment.

11th November 2018 Launch

Postby snrkl » Tue Nov 13, 2018 11:30 am

Pulled together my flight video. No onboard video - I’m still waiting for my 3d printed shroud for the RunCam, so I had to do something else to make the flight video more interesting:
