Maybe Christmas at my place is a little *darker* than at other people's houses... ;)

A windy day for flying today, with canopies on the flight line choosing to join in flight activities ( a timely reminder for members to ensure canopies are pegged down securely!) and an interesting time flying today with what felt like a record 5 failed flights including two ballistic landings that left their owners with "bucket" recoveries, something that is NEVER fun...

Here are the stats from the day:
Total Flights: 35
Flight Failures: 5
Certification Flights: 2
Certification Successes: 1

Motor Mix:
1x 1/2 A
2x A
2x B
11x C
2x D
5x F
6x G
3x H
1x I
1x K

Flight Highlights for the day:

Lachlan's "Krampus Tree" Christmas rocket consisting of a small plastic Christmas tree, complete with baubles and decorations flying to 150ft on a cluster of 3x D12 motors (F36 equiv). An unexpectedly graceful boost and recovery certainly made for a spectacle.

Lachlan's "Girandolaaaaaaaa!!" spin stabilised cluster / saucer flying to 400ft on 12x C6 motors (F32 equiv) was an epic sight!

Both Brad Thompson and Matt Barton saw unfortunate ballistic landings. Matt with his "SCR Quake" on a G80 and Brad with his "Silver Bullet" on an I400 VMAX suffering recovery event failures.

David Skinner successfully flew "Blue Thunder" for his L1 certification on an H123: CONGRATULATION DAVID!! :D

UQ Space were out in force again today with Myrthe Snoeks putting up her L2 Certification Attempt "Athena Project". Myrthe was unfortunately unsuccessful with the certification, despite UQ's CO2 recovery system operating nominally, "Athena Project" suffered a shock cord failure that saw the fin can separate and tumble recover, taking a hard landing.

Most prolific flyer today was Austin, getting in 6 flights with "Ignite", "Fat Boy", "Mini Max" and his "Falcon 9" and largest Motor for the day was Myrthe and the UQ Space team with a K535 in "Athena Project" to 3500ft.

We had a visitor today, Josh Logan was filming for the kids TV program "Brain Buzz" on Channel 9GO (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BrainBuzz) with footage taken likely to air in 2019.

The Club Annual General Meeting was held once flight operations ceased, with the new committee being elected. I will let Lachlan, our new fearless leader (Congratulations "El Presedenté"!) brief on the outcomes of the AGM.

I'd like to thank all those who helped with setup, pack down, bbq's and LCO/RSO duties today.. We all appreciate the effort!!
