LAUNCH INVITATION

The Queensland Rocketry Society Inc (QRS) would like to invite all interested people and members of the Australian rocketry community to our June launch.

LAUNCH DETAILS

Date: Sunday 12th June.
Range Open: 0800.
Range Closed: 1300.
Ceiling: 5000ft AGL. (A NOTAM will be posted with Air Services Brisbane office).

DIRECTIONS

If you require directions to launch area 2 at Cedar Grove, please refer to the QRS website.

SPECIAL NOTICES FOR THE DAY

* Members are asked to sign in at the RSO table at 8:00am.
* If your membership is not current on the day, you will not be able to launch.
* HPR rocketeers will need to provide evidence of a current QLD explosives licence.
* If launching an unproven design, either scratch built or a modified kit, bring a copy of your sim so the RSO can verify the stability/safety of your rocket.

AMRS CERTIFICATION FLIGHTS

This launch is AMRS sanctioned and AMRS certification flights for Level 1 & 2 will be conducted. Remember to make arrangements with the AMRS Certification Officer prior to the launch day. AMRS members from across Australia who wish to attempt certification are welcome to attend for this purpose.

UNFAVOURABLE WEATHER

If adverse weather or other conditions on the day of the launch effect the launch program, the launch will be rescheduled. If on the day of the launch, you are uncertain the launch will proceed, check this post for updates or contact 07 33331655 and follow the prompts to local clubs. A cancellation notice will be posted to the launch site shortly after 7:00am on the day of the launch.

Hey Digit... Any help setting up is always appreciated... The trailer usually arrives on site around 7 am...

Launch Report.

A cold & bleak morning with a stiffish wind which perhaps explains the smaller than normal turn-out. There were 21 launches for the morning, 14 LP, 3 MP & 4 HP, most flyers opting for lower altitude flights to avoid the inevitable long walk.

The biggest motor of the day was Ole Kirks L2 attempt with his Tomahawk on a J425 which sadly was not successful when the motor case blew out at 1500 feet.

Lachlan Thomas really earned his L1 which he achieved on his Quicksilver on a H143 Smokey Sam. His simmed altitude of 2600 feet was always going to mean a long hike and the rocket drifted about a km landing in the local river. He wasn't about to let this end his attempt so he got his gear off and went swimming, definitely an L1 "above & beyond" the normal requirements. Congratulations Lachlan.

It was great to several family groups launching together including new family memberships. Inspite of the average weather conditions, everyone seemed to enjoy themselves with only 1 rocket being lost to wind drift.

Well done with the cert. not sure I'd have jumped in the river, must have been far too cold.

I also had a bit of difficulty recovering the ballistic chicken. Took quite some time to untangle there chute line.

Entangled Chicken sounds like a cross between a Quantum Leap and a Balistic Chicken. :lol:

Congratulations on the L1 digit. Very tidy rocket. I hope its not too badly waterlogged and will live to fly another day.

Big Congrat's to you Lachlan on your L1 ! Your efforts recovering it gives you bonus points. :wink: Sadly family commitments prevented me attending this time around to witness your success.

Our very first president at QRS ( Peter Scott) also did a very similar thing as his rocket landed over the other side of the river. He stripped totally nude, swam across the river and recovered it from the opposite river bank....holding his family jewels as you do.. :lol: and swam bank with rocket held up in one hand and got dressed. True story, I was there. :P
