Come on CATO - You're getting slack in your old age. You have still got all day today and Friday to get that "BIG" rocket finished and still have Saturday to drive up.

Kathy and I are sitting in a hotel room in Beaudesert. The weather all afternoon has been -awesome-. Fingers crossed it holds out until 13:00 tomorrow. :!:

Bugger, Matt

You could have come on over and sampled a semi rural camp fire at our place.

It will be good to see you tomorrow

That was a great day!

Perfect weather, great roll up of the public, and there must have been 100 try/fly rockets launched.

Some really interesting rockets including Matts flying saucer which I loved.

Thanks everyone!

Launch Report

An absolutely magnificent launch day, chilly at first but turning into cloudless warm day with no wind. Probably the busiest public launch day for some time with perhaps 150 visitors thanks to Ari's PR efforts with the local media. These numbers were reflected in the Southern Cross "Fly It, Take It" program with 32 rockets launched. There was an additional 9 LP, 13 MP , 14 HP & 1 water rocket launches making a total for the day of 69 launches. Some members traveled considerable distances to be at the event with Nic Lottering up from NSW and Matthew Small & his partner Kathy down from Cairns.

A couple of more unusual rockets launched were Matthew Smalls "Flying Saucer" on an F30 and Mike Ritters single fin rocket "One Zee" on a F52. Unfortunately Mike ended up in the power lines but it will be retrieved by the power company later this week. Mike also flew the largest motor of the day, a J354 in his "Thor".

Some of the more unusual rocket names emerging during the mornings launches were Nic's "54 Thingo", Matt B's "Dunno", Cam's "Mohammed Ali" but the most amusing was one of the young visitor's who called his rocket "Please Don't Explode".

An event like a public launch requires many volunteers but most can do a couple of hours and still have time to play. However, once again Di Nikolic spent the whole launch running the BBQ/drinks tent, thanks Di. The morning was very successful, enjoyed by everyone and hopefully will result in new members.

Just to chime in here as the launch was just so good. The weather was picture perfect, blue skies and no wind. :)

It always seems to be the case ......those coming from far away are always there first. So, as I turn up around 6.30am at the launch site, Matthew is already there with his better half...

Was great to also catch up with Nic again as it's been a while. He did a wonderful thing for me by donating a K550 for me to launch at the next Open Day Launch in October ( October Skies) and I can't thank you enough mate !

It was a very busy day with good crowd attending all morning and as Fud Pucker already mentioned, it takes many volunteers to make it happen.

I was very happy to make one boy's birthday a special one by showing him ( and his brothers & dad ) how to get rocket ready to fly, set it up on a rail and then for him to launch it. The rocket was 'ol faithful Ariel on H123W. Perfect launch and recovery 20 meters away and he was one happy 9 year old.

Special thanks to all those who came early to so the set up and then the tear down after. :D

A fantastic day for flying rockets. A big thanks to all volunteers who helped on the day. Warren, Andrew and Phil who did a great job with the Fly It Take It program. Julie who manned the entrance and ran the raffle. To all others who helped with the set up and pack up and the BBQ. Your efforts are greatly appreciated.

You're quite right SpaceManMat. Apologies Matt B, didn't look at the launch cards closely enough when writing the report.
