Launch Report.

A fun launch day with a reasonable turn out for the last launch of the year. December launches are traditionally quieter but we still had 29 flights for the morning.

Interestingly, of the 14 LP launches, 6 were old hands breaking out their older rockets for some low power fun. Jeff flew his "Big Sharky" on a D-12, Phil, his "Eliminator" on a D-12, Warren flew a "Junior" & an Alpha 3" on A-8's and Matt, his "Optima" on a D-12 and "Viper" on a 3 motor D-12 cluster. Sometimes, it's hard to beat the simplicity and quick prep time of a simple black powder rocket.

Biggest motor of the morning was Ole Kirk's rocket Tomahawk on a J337 to 4300 feet.

Jack Leat achieved his L1 on his rocket "Waka Atea" (Maori for space ship) on an H125 to 2800 feet. His initial attempt on an I195 Red ended badly when his his motor case burnt thru causing a parachuteless landing. However, a field amputation of the damaged section allowed Jack to successfully try again with a slightly shorter rocket. Congratulations Jack.

Father and son, Rob and Robbie Newton were presented certificates for the completion of the "Lift Off" section of the "Blast Off" program. There were also another 2 trial flights for the morning, Bam Bam (nick name I hope) launched his "Big Green Frog" twice on B-6's and Mahmood Nekooee launched his "Sand Storm" on a C-6. Hopefully we will see these families back again.

A great end to the year, Merry Christmas to everyone.

Congrats on the certification Jack.

Oli and Catie each built their first rockets for scouts and successfully flew them on in a drag race on Bs. Oli is claiming the victory although all things being equal Catie's would have gone higher...

I suspect there will be a rematch at westmar after they are painted this time on Cs.

Thanks for posting the vid. Wish i could have made it. What was the first rocket mishap? Looked like a water rocket with a pyro motor?

What do you mean, that flight was textbook

Seriously though, that was a beautiful display of an incorrect thrust to weight ratio (Too low. Whereas too high of a ratio could result in 'shredding').

That was a tough rocket though, it will live to fly again!
