Western Australia Launch 15th July

Postby Scoop1261 » Thu Jul 12, 2007 2:46 pm

Weather is a bit suss a the moment, but we are hoping for it to be clear with light or no wind for the proposed 15th July PARC launch at the Toodyay site.

Obviously photos and a report will be posted in due course.

Any Western Australianies got some new or interesting stuff to launch?

Well Shannan's Mirage will be getting its maiden flight. She can make the launch and wants to see it go.

I am planning on one or two G launches with the Strong arm. Some Fs will launch the Warthog and Hawk. I will then have a random selection of BP stuff on offer.

Anything new from Scoopworks ?

Nothing new for me! I got my alt and bits and pieces this week so not enough time to do anything with it for this launch.
If there's no wind I'll give the AMRAAM a kick with a H-something (123W or 97J) as well as the usual G64 or G77, and give the Matrix some air with something with a bit of oomph.
Will try and spend time helping Nick launch stuff, since he hasn't flown too much the last couple of launches.
It'll be good to see Shannan see her rocket fly finally.
What you planning scoop?

Still having a think about what to put up.

I would like to do the Raptor on a couple of different loads, and use the G-Wiz Alt just to suss out a couple calibrations.

I would also like to do the GLR Escape Velocity on something like a H268R and use the dual deployment.....sims show somewhere around 2700ft.

I need to get to work to finish off the avionics sled for the EV though.

I'll be interested in seeing what you've done with that. Haven't started work on mine yet.

FANSTASTIC!
Best launch day this year, and one the best of the last couple of seasons. Sunny, very little breeze.
Lots of people.

I launched
AMRAAM2 - G64W, G77R, H97J
Matrix - H268R, I200
Nick (my son) launched
Harpoon AGM -C6-5
Estes Xprize Eagle - C6-7
Blue Ninja - D12-5

President Kev launched his Thug on a H97J, a beautiful flight, straight and high.

I'm sure others will tell their stories as they get back and organised.

I f I tell the whole story, it will end in tears!

Let's stick to the rocket stuff.

As Mark said....beautiful day, sunny, very little breeze...all in all a gret day for flying rockets.

Arrived late at the range for reasons which will not bee discussed here.
Prepared my GLR Escape Velocity for a flight on a 29mm H268R using a Perfectflite MAWD for dual deployment.
I used some ejection canisters sourced from Doug Pratt, set the main for deployment at 700ft.

Rocket simmed to about 2700ft using Rocksim.
Once again, I am convinced of Rocksim's generousity with regard to altitude.
The actual altitude was 2367ft AGL with the drogue deployed at apogee, and the main out at 700ft as desired.

Next up was the Hawk Moutain 29mm FWFG minimum diameter, using a G64W-10, simulation suggested somewhere around 2700ft, but i would have to say it was just a smidgey higher. Little drift as it uses a 24" crossform chute, so only a little walk was required.

I prepped the GLR EV for another dual deploy shot, this time using the 38mm H112J, simulations showed it to attain apogee at 2254ft, the MAWD reported apogee at 1547ft AGL.
Both drogue and main deployed successfully rocket return with no damage.

I will post a picture when I can get them uploaded to that damned imageshack.

What an awesome day, couldn't of asked for better weather.

Didn't launch all that much but what I launched was great...up until the 2nd last launch

I put up:
Gooney Nike
Warthog on a F52, perfect flight and landing
2 launches of the Strong Arm on G64s
Shannan Launched the Mirage in the shorter configuration, Awesome flight and perfect landing standing on its fins.
Then I decided to launch the Mirage on a G77, this didn't go too well. A CATO happened that blew through the side of the case and burnt a slot through the side of the rocket and decimated the MMT. But it did go out in a spectacular fashion.

I got a few pics and some video I will post the vids later.

And here is some damage.

Great shot of the Escape velocity Jason! (and the Matrix)

The Mirage story is indeed a sorry tale...

I'll also get some video uploaded in a couple of days.

Nice looking Matrix, Mark!

Glad to hear a good day was had. Too bad about the CATO, and that's the oddest looking airframe burnthrough I've ever seen.

If anyone wants to avoid the adverts on imageshack, hit the site in my .sig and make an account. Then you can use the Media Gallery link at the top of the page to create yourself a gallery and upload photos and vids to your heart's content. I've put a 100mb limit, but that was just plucked out of my aft end. I can increase it easily if anyone needs it as I have gigs of space.

Yep.......... it was a good AP consuming day.
Seemed like there was always something going up.

My personal opinion is yes.....O-ring = culprit!

Further inspection would be required, and I believe Jason may well be in contact with AT already to confirm their requirements..........but my gut feeling says "Sorry dude.....ah yeah....that looks suspiciously like an O-ring failure....you know.....it's ahhh....well one of those things that happen!"

Oh yeah....and another beautiful photo from brother Fridge-05......basking in the warm glow of a Redline.
