November 4th Launch

Postby MarkH » Mon Sep 17, 2007 8:14 pm

I went into Stanbridges today and had a quick chat with Kevin. He mentioned that the proposed November date coincides with the Red Bull air race. He was wondering if this might be a conflict with more than just himself amongst the general PARC membership.

Should we consider changing the date?

Moving it later into November may bring problems with local fire restrictions, moving it forward a week means a short time between the October 7th launch and what would be an October 29th launch.
It can be discussed at the next launch but might be worth thrashing it out here first.

Personally I'm not that fussed about the Air Race but quite happy to change dates to suit others who want to be there. I'm not too worried about a shorter interval between October launches (especially if some new motors happen to turn up!). I would prefer not to risk a cancellation on a later date in November (even the 4th could be cancelled I guess...).

So what do others think...

I agree with Mark,

Don't want risk going to deep into November, and I am not fussed about the short time between Oct & Nov launches.

I don't really care about the air race, although it would be a PITA to get in and out of South Perth on the day.

I guess there's still enough time to call a Special General Meeting between now and then.

go for it i shall wait for the letter

if the date change then a letter will need to be sent to all 37 members 4 weeks in advance and the web page will need to be changed so will all the other clubs adverts which are elsewhere

someone else on the committee will need to do this as i will be busy with sexpo

then casa will need to be sorted fun fun

Fair enough. Like I said I'm not fussed either way, I just posted this because Kevin asked about it.

Don't we have an alternate date for the following weekend listed with CASA if the weather is inclement anyway?

yes there is but it is down for rain only, but it still means wasting money to move the date for no weather related reason ie members know if it rains or the wind is way to high then it falls over to the next sunday and if unsure they call

where as a date change not related to weather means 37 letters 37 stamps 37 envlopes etc etc

also the feedback that i have had is that this year the dates not moving has meant more people are coming because they can plan round it last year there were two date changes that i know of with f##k all notice not to good for new people coming out

from my experience last year the saturday was a much better day to watch it.

Sure you dont see the actual "race" but you get to see all the trial runs and the demo aircraft usually do two or three practices.

Plus a lot fewer people to contend with and no hour wait in traffic getting home.

I am still trying to wrangle the sunday off work to make it to the launch. I will work the saturday night and hopefully come straight up from leaving there. Lots of coffee and the smell of AP in the morning will keep me going :D
