Strange Goings On

Postby lorstin » Tue Nov 13, 2018 6:06 pm

Has anybody noticed the sudden increase in the amount of "views" that the last thread on most pages has had? Even the "most users online took a sharp jump last Sunday. As I write this there is 80 odd users online! :?:

I had noticed something similar, now that you mention it. My last thread in "electronics" is up to about 5k views in a very short period of time. I have also checked and currently there are 75 guests on line. That number sounds anomalous.

Any ideas kopius?

Yea, I'd be really interested to geolocate the IP addresses to see where all of these requests are coming from.

Has it got anything to do with Google Bot or Baidu Spider?

I don't think it's the Google Bot as that appears as a registered user. Baidu, I'm not so sure. That said I would expect web crawlers would only appear as a handful of users, not dozens and dozens.

Never knew this before but we can click the "Who's Online" button and see what the guests are up to
It seems the "guests" are quite busy, and not just viewing topics. They seem to be "replying to messages" and even "viewing member profiles", both functions I would have thought are only available to members.

So, after crashing with "bandwidth exceeded" and other strange messages over the past few days, the forum seems to be back to something more believable. 25 online currently.

It is still interesting to see some "guests" replying to threads.
