The Virus Known as Windows Update

Postby OverTheTop » Thu Mar 14, 2019 5:07 pm

I went to update my flight simulation for my high flight at Thunda last weekend and my three network attached storage drives were invisible to my PC :( . It seems an update had been applied and when I had not accessed my NAS drives for 15 days it uninstalled the required protocols in the OS, without informing me.

It took me a couple of days of spare time to regain access to my files, something I didn't need when getting my paperwork organised.

So be sure to watch out for this, and Windows Update in general. As I told my university team, turn off update a week out from the launch, and do a reboot to check it boots cleanly. I had one instance at Serpentine when I turned the PC on and it started installing an update that took 45 minutes, all while in the paddock and running on battery :? .

You have been warned!
