GoPro HERO 5 (2018) is actually a firmware crippled HERO 5 Black

Title says it all. The 2018 model GoPro Hero camera is from a hardware perspective identical to the GoPro Hero 5 Black camera and is crippled by firmware to disable inbuilt hardware features such as GPS and 4K 30fps video recordng.

I can confirm the firmware URL in the wget command works as I'm pulling the file now. IT's ~47MB in size.

I can also confirm the diff file is still up and available for download as well.

Currently the Hero 5 2018 model is $299 at JB. The Hero 5 Black is $429. From my perspective $130 in the back pocket is worth the loss of warranty given the feature set you end up with here.
