Williams "Wildfire" Westernationals 2017 photos and video thread

Postby drew » Tue Jun 06, 2017 12:29 am

Registration, kitchen, and dining facilities on Friday afternoon. Many thanks to everyone who setup in advance.
Image

Mark's Friday night quick epoxy job.
Image

Dave's ready for the morning.
Image

Friday night flight line.
Image

Another camp shot.
Image

El Toado.
Image

keeping warm.
Image

Dave formally opening the event and range on Saturday morning.
Image

I was shooting with a new to me camera over the weekend. Unfortunately some photos were not very good as I'm still adjusting.
Image

Oscar with one of many many flights.
Image

Corey's Blackhawk 29.
Image

Nice flight Corey!
Image

Peter G.'s L2 attempt.
Image

Dave's Wildchild mini took it's time.
Image

But ended up flying just fine.
Image

Peter G. flew again.
Image

Then Corey's V2 had a good initial boost off the pad.
Image

But oh dear, something's gone awry.
Image

Image

Image

But she ended up coming down just fine.
Image

I flew my Bullpup 2.1 on a H87.
Image

Good recovery too.
Image

Simon's Mosquito roared off the near pad bank.
Image

Seriously good little flyer those rockets.
Image

Dave's Talon 2 was the last flight I photographed on Saturday.
Image

And it was a good un!
Image

Some casual flight line banter.
Image

Awards and hors d'oeuvres.
Image

Lining up for the main course.
Image

Sunday Joe flew his Mosquito which initially struggled to light.
Image

But no worries here.
Image

My new 54 LB ready for final assembly.
Image

And here's where the new to me camera failed me. My 54 LB flight on a I800. Bit blury there.
Image

Good clean recovery though. In focus photo too.
Image

Julian got in the mix early Sunday.
Image

As did Miguel. Once again, motors didn't want to light.
Image

But when they did, great flights were had.
Image

Joe's HASTE. Spewin it's blury.
Image

Miguel stepping up the impulse.
Image

Along with Julian.
Image

I also got into the mix with my 54 LB, this time on a J600. I was incredibly lucky with my recovery, the rocket landed in a maybe 5 meter clearing in a cluster of trees. I didn't get a good launch photo but I did get some video.
Image

Michelle flying on a F sparky motor. I reckon this was my photo of the weekend.
Image

Killer flight Michelle.
Image

Sani attempting his L2.
Image

Throughout the weekend, Oscar was relentless on the pads!
Image

Simon's IRIS. Great looking rocket.
Image

And a good flyer too.
Image

Mark's Matrix on a J800.
Image

Some more low power goodness.
Image

Oscar. Again and again.
Image

Sunday afternoon flight line.
Image

Dave prepping his 4 inch AMRAAM. Did you know the Chicago Cubs are World Series Champions?
Image

Still a few flights left in the crew.
Image

Sani prepping to drag Dave with his 4 inch AMRAAM.
Image

Sani came out the gates early.
Image

And had a good looking boost.
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/GzNWZ ... 00-h648-no

But then Dave's Gorilla K motor roared.
Image

And pushed HARD.
Image

Simon on the pad. Bad ignitor. We were opening the first paddock gate when she went up.
Image

What a great long weekend! Thanks to everyone for making this year so fun and enjoyable. I'll be back soon with video and flight data!

Awesome photo's Drew!

What an awesome weekend, many thanks to EVERYONE involved, I had a great time.
I'm really, reeeeally looking forward to WWW 2018! :D

I got a few photo's to share tonight, most of which are duplicate's of Drew's from a slightly different angle.

Mate, I was struggling with a camera I'm very familiar with. Low and constantly varying light is not easy to work with.
drew wrote:Oscar with one of many many flights.

Understatement! Corie and Oscar are prep & fly machines! (mental note: NOT Oliver. Facepalm. Apologies again mate.)
drew wrote:Simon's IRIS. Great looking rocket.

Thanks for the kind words. 1/6th is too small though, so I have a bigger one in the works.

Probably my fault. I decided to avoid the supplied crapperhead and chose to use a J-Tek, which probably wasn't the best choice for an AeroTech in hindsight?
I pilfered a FirstFire from another reload for the successful launch. Very happy the G64 didn't cato!

WOW another awesome WWW !
Huge thanks to Dave and Mel for the dedication and time spent preparing for this event.
Thanks to the WARS members for chipping in to help and make this a great event for the fliers and families alike .
As usual no pics from us , but if I close my eyes and concentrate I can still hear the roar and smell the APCP.

Just took a bit of a look at the GPS data from my J600 flight on Sunday. I then exported it to kml and threw this together. Not bad for a 54mm J flight if I do say so myself!

Well, that was the plan. Then I hit the forum 250kB limit for images so I tried a host (Google Photo's) which, as it turn's out, doesn't allow direct linking... I remember now why I haven't posted last years WWW pics!

Anyway, tried a few hosts and found one I like, so here goes...

Here's the pad video from my Xiaomi Yi camera of the maiden flight of my 54-LB on a I800 Vmax motor. The video is in the format of normal speed, 1/8th speed, and 1/16th speed. Best viewed at 1080p60.

Oh lawd, I just realised that with Openshot that I can just drop jpeg images into the "timeline" of the video I'm editing and it will display the stills in the video feed for 7 seconds! Safe to say my videos will be more comprehensive from here on in!

Here's my 54-LB J600 flight video.
