Just a reminder to all interested parties that our first launch for the season is scheduled for this coming Sunday at Grass Valley.

The weather is looking quite favorable at this stage for those wishing to make full use of the 7,000ft ceiling.

Today's launch was a beauty. Here's a rundown of the flights. I have video too which I'll work through and upload shortly.

Julian started us off for the day.

Next up was my Talon 2 on a H163.

Julian taking a leisurely stroll to recover his rocket.
Image

Joe flew his mini Eagle Claw which promptly decided to change direction during boost (nozzle shift?). That said the recovery and rocket were both fine.
Image

Image

Mark had ingiter woes but kept a grin.
Image

Some of the spectators.
Image

Mark's Blackhawk 29 got moving once the igniter issues were sorted!
Image

Craig prepping his hybrid.
Image

Toad's little rocket.
Image

Mark's Pterodactyl.
Image

My Firestorm on a I180.

Craig's 60mm hybrid on the pad.
Image

She took a while to get moving.
Image

But did in the end with a spectacular flight!

My Firestorm on a J500.

And a successful recovery to cap off a great day.

I didn't even see that until you pointed it out !

That was Sandra with a jacket on her head to keep the flies out, but I much prefer the idea of a Tuscan Raider, means WARS is now intergalactic !

We had a great day (flies and occasionally vomiting child excepted..)

Was a little breezy at low altitude but pretty good really up top.

I tried out a new recovery process as used by Drew quite a lot recently ie main chute released from a bag/wrap by cable cutter controlled by NC electronics.

My version involved piston ejection of chute etc at apogee with the chute retained in a wrap using a cable tie. The tie is then cut with a 'cable cutter' actuated by recovery electronics in the nose cone.

Given the trying circumstances of the prep and that it was the first time trying this approach I was almost surprised to see it work exactly as expected !

Here is a few pics of the rocket on the ground and my little helper.

However, the harness did get seriously tangled on the top launch lug !

And finally here's a short video of launches from close to the pad. I ran out of SD card space and didn't realise it so I missed a few flights.
