Just another launch day...

Postby kopius » Fri Mar 02, 2018 3:54 pm

Scoop and I are currently in the USA working on some projects and just happened to be in the neighbourhood for a local launch. This is a really accurate full scale version of the ULA Atlas 5 in a 541 configuration. They even managed to replicate Launch Complex 41 at Kennedy Space Center.

Pull the other leg. It plays Jingle Bells... :D

Did you get to see the launch at KSC live?

OH. MY.

Will y'all be seeing the Falcon 9 launch as well?

You two are over there, Mel and Jodi are off to Ed Shezzes tonight, and I'm at home with the kid.

Well played sirs, well played.

OTT, yes it had a variety of carols haha.

Yes, that was one of many of Scoop’s photos he snapped.

Drew, we were hoping to attend F9, however the launch schedule is being moved around and prob too difficult to attend without an accurate schedule with the other work we have to get done.

Will share more photos later ;-)

You guys were lucky. I was there for nearly a week and the F9 with Zuma kept getting delayed, as did the Heavy static fire

Where did you observe the flight from? Just curious.

Did manage to see Zuma fly, but from the beach about 150km north of KSC.

There are a couple of Falcon Heavy flight scheduled for the next few months, and a good assortment of F9 launches too. Things are looking up (no pun intended) :D

Bugger! We were at the KSC visitor Center viewing area ~7miles away. Because of the shuffling of launch dates and uncertainty of our movements, we could lock in the 3 mike viewing area.

Yes, there is a lot of activity which is great. There is a Falcon 9 launch planned at midnight here in a few nights, so unsure if we will be able to get there again or not, especially since everything at KSC is closed for that launch.

Forgot to mention. If you get time do the "Early Space" tour at KSC. Great to go through the bunkers and pads at Cape Canaveral where the Redstones were launched, and also visit the pad where the Apollo 1 incident occurred. Limited places. Need to book ahead, as turning up on the day will result in disappointment.

Just heading out to the 50th launch of Falcon 9 set for take off at 12:33am local. It looks amazing sitting on the pad lit up like a Christmas tree.

The live stream will start about 15min out: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Kpfrp-GMKKM

Very hard to get a clear image on camera, but it looked amazing at night! The sound was intense and even though they couldn’t recover the booster, we were able to see the re-entry burn.
