QRS Inc calendar for 2011

Postby october sky » Sat Jan 15, 2011 1:15 pm

Here we go, another year starts and new opportunities to spread the word about this awesome hobby ! :D

We have a booking for 27th of January at "Warrill View State School" which is well past Ipswich on Cunningham Hwy.
The display and talk starts at 11 am so I plan to be there no later than 10.30am. I don't expect anyone really to help on this one due to distance unless you live that way and you are free on that morning.

Jimboomba Library display & talk is on the 15th of March at 1.30pm.

Beenleigh Library display & talk is on the 28th of April at 10.30am.

Pine Rivers Northside Christian Home Schooling Group has booked us for the 12th of August. More about this as the year progresses.

Any and all our members are more than welcome to support this exciting way of getting the word about rocketry to our future rocketeers. I encourage those who have never been to one of these displays to attend and see how the students take all this in !!! 8)

Did it get affected by the floods at all?

I thought I heard something about Warrill View in the flood news. Probably would be worth looking into it.

Warrill View State School was visited this morning by "our family" meaning I had my wife and daughter with me ! :D

This school is a small country school with only 36 students all up and all attended including the teachers. It's about one and a half hours drive from south side of Brissie.

As you can imagine, there is not much "action" in these places so this rocket display and talk was wonderfully received and everyone was very excited about it all. Students were all very well behaved and paid attention for the whole talk. 8)

It was great for my wife & daughter also as they attended a playgroup there with true country hospitality. :)

It was a hot day with very little wind so the launch went perfectly straight and got a big applause and "WOW" from the students.

This group got such a kick out of it all that as I explained the AYRC comp. all students wanted to get into it and the teachers agreed also. Their are hoping to enter two teams to AYRC. That is fantastic !!! 8)

Great stuff Ari. You really know how to sell the sport :D How do you find the time to do all this and still build rockets?

George my friend, "secret" is to work 3 days a week and try to juggle the school days in between !! :D

Had a talk about all this with Kryten just recently.

I haven't built any rockets since "OZ Thunder" but that was quite a build....I'm planning something for this year, I'll see if it happens, will keep you posted.

I have another booking for Thur. the 24th of Feb. at Boonah Primary School. There will be two sessions, one at 10am and the other 11am. Around 50 students on each group.

I have been told that kids are very excited about this visit so it should be another good one ! 8)

Boonah ( around 100 K's from Brissies southside towards south west) display and talk went really well and was excitedly received by around 75 students. Local newspaper was present and I was told by the journo that " I wish I had more stories like this to do". He really enjoyed him self.

They have an active science club and will try to put a team together for the AYRC ! 8)

I did two launches using code red, one for the class that I spoke to and then to most students of the school. That particular launch was my 200th successful launch and good news was that it was a perfect one with landing in front of the students app. 25 meters away. :D

I also have received a new booking for the 18th of March at 10am for a group of home schooled kids at Carindale reserve.

That will be a busy week of rocketry with public launch on the 13th, Jimboomba Library display on the 15th and then this one on the 18th. :P

Hi Ari

Congrats with the 200th launch! It is no small feat. Of even more importance is what you are doing for the hobby and, in fact, all of us.

I won't elaborate here-and-now, but you have our collective gratitude. :)

Kind regards,
Nic

Nic, thank you for that, really appreciated ! I might be there often by my self but I do carry the flag for the QRS and rocketry in general and I believe and hope that in the future all rocketeers will benefit from it one way or another. :D

Here is something weird....we decided to change our family car of 5 years to something less thirsty ( V8 5.7L SS). Ended up with Mitsubishi Outlander, just the 4x2 version. We just picked it up two hours ago. Reg. plate is 200 RKL !! I read it as ROCKET LAUNCH 200...... :P That was just a standard plate but it just happen to have that 200 which was the number I just reached yesterday. 8)
