QRS Display at Logan North Library

Postby october sky » Mon Jun 01, 2015 2:23 pm

We have enjoyed excellent support for around 5 years from Logan North Library. We have been invited every year to their "Sci-Fi and Fantasy Month" which takes place every August.

Not only do their carry our flyers for the public to take but distributes them to all other 8 libraries in Logan. Now how good is that ! :D

In the past we had a display at their foyer for a month and now, after speaking to the librarian that I know well, we were able to put up another display right next to the tellers.

In average, 5000 people visit this excellent library weekly. As a side note, good to see that people still read books instead "Google" everything up.

I was there this morning to set up this simple display which will be there for the whole month of June. 8)

As QRS will have a "Public Launch" ( advertised launch) coming up on July, this was excellent opportunity to advertise the event, not to mention July's Australian Youth Rocketry Challenge.

Thank's to Blake for organising special flyers for this display. BTW Blake, that orange rocket of yours in right on the top shelf ( pun intended) with some rocketry books.

Anyone visiting the library can not miss this display. :P

That wouldn't happen to be your favourite rocket picture in the middle of the table Ari?

Nice display by the way. Can we convince the to stock any model rocketry books?

Yes indeed Matt, you are right but hey, it draws attention and that is the key !

They actually have a pretty good selection of Rocketry and Space books and this library is very popular. 8)

Ari, I've seen you fly that I4. I'm amazed how you keep it so shiny. Mine have rail rash, mach rash, landing rash, transport rash, etc etc.

Matthew, I have been lucky as after 13 launches so far and it still looks pretty good......it has a good two pack paint on it and it's been around since 2010 ! :D

No, I don't keep it in bed with me and keep polishing it......

The display is now down but good news is that only 15 flyers remain of the 100 or so we had there. :D

In other news, I have just returned from Wellers Hill After Hours School Care doing the display and talk to those unfortunate kids that have to be there even when it's school holidays.

There were 93 kids and 8 teachers present and again I am so amazed how well the kids behave when rockets are around. Every one pays attention and they take the info with an open heart. So good to see.

After the talk we watched a dvd and then headed to the school oval to do the usual B6-4 launch. With beautiful calm conditions and sunny skies, it went great and kids absolutely love it. :P

The amount of questions during Q/A time is amazing. Had to stop at 12 as it would have taken way too long.

As our next launch is an advertised "public launch" many of the kids were keen to attend. One of teachers said straight away that she will be there with her family. 8)

Thanks David, much appreciated. :D BTW, awesome photos of your Patriot and your self in Rockets Mag. Very cool mate ! 8)

I have always maintained the fact that the more people know about this awesome hobby, better for rocketry in general. :)

Thanks Ari, agreed 100%, it's good to see that we finally made it into the mag, a great selling point for THUNDA, AMRS and Australia. 2018 will be awesome (my hope is to have a 3/4 scale Patriot "50% P" or greater ready by then), but before then I hope to attend WWW2016 in WA, this event will also be awesome (I like the word awesome), if you have not been to Williams before, then this is the event you need to attend, I hope to see you all there...

Matt, thank you ! :D

David, Williams holds a special place in my heart as on the 5th of the June, 2010 I did my L3 in there. Dave Couzens has been my great inspiration and he guided me in my early years so much. I can't thank him enough. Naturally Blake and many others have been there always to help. We have such a great group of rocketeers to get help and advice. :)

I totally agree about your comments ref. Rockets Mag. and all the publicity. 8)
