ROCKETS Magazine (Volume 10 Issue 6)

Postby Wingnut » Wed Oct 03, 2018 8:57 am

The ROCKETS Magazine website has been off-line of late and there hasn't been any new products for some time. Earlier this morning many of us received an email formally advising that ROCKETS Magazine will be discontinued.

The very last issue of ROCKETS Magazine (Volume 10, Issue #6) is out now.

The articles in this final issue are:

  • PiGen 2 experimental payload Project by Ronald Willis
  • History of ROCKETS Magazine by Neil McGilvray
  • Photos of LDRS 37 (16-20 May 2018 at the Maddox Dairy Farms in Central California) by Deb Koloms

Sadly, it's the end of another era. Keep all of your glossy hardcopies and PDF versions of the magazine in safe keeping.

Ciao for now,
Mike

I'm really going to miss this.....

"Like all good things, even ROCKETS Magazine has to come to an end. We have
tried to hang in there over the past couple of years since our migration to an all-digital format. The changes to
technology and simply the way media is viewed over the internet meant the bell had tolled long before we were
willing to hear it."

"The harsh reality is that ROCKETS Magazine cannot be operated as a commercial endeavor. No matter
how many corners are cut or pennies are saved, the Magazine isn’t viable in this current media environment.
We have fallen short on content and the timeliness of getting large launch reports to press has got increasingly
challenging. In a world of Tweets, Instagram’s, Live Streaming, Facebook and other evolving technologies, the
standard of a periodically produced magazine format was heading the way of the Dodo Bird."

Sad news, but a sign of the times.

I hope they find some way to preserve an archive of the electronic editions online somewhere.

I realise there is currently an archive. I was thinking more about maintaining it for future generations.

There have been issues with the website going down recently. Who will pay for the web hosting in the future if the magazine is shut down?

It’s already giving 404 errors.

If that's still the case come Monday bump this thread and I'll throw the entire archive up on Google Drive. I've already pulled all the files. FYI a couple of the links were dead and appear to have not been uploaded (I tried to manually troubleshoot/fix the urls given the naming convention).
