^dont believe a word of that article. I had a former ESA engineer tell me it was complete bogus yesterday. Apparently a similar thing was said about Christmas Island many years ago. The only thing that came out of it was a casino not a space port...

There are no laws stopping research installations in international waters, and due to the location of Australia theres actually a massive amount of areas with no flight paths over them. Id say it would probably be cheaper to hire a barge than get government licences too, which is embarassing really...


You would still have to deal with the UN space treaty, and that from me understanding requires the country of origins government to be involved.

Warwick Holmes??? He was on Triple J with Dr Karl a month or so back and made some interesting remarks about the benefits of a Australian Space Agency.
Many years ago the great British explorer George Mallory, who was to die on Mount Everest, was asked why did he want to climb it. He said, "Because it is there."
Well, space is there, and we're going to climb it

Yes that was the gentlemen. Warwick seemed like a top bloke. He really wants AU in ESA. Not sure if it would happen or if we can afford it, but it would make some things easier.
