Hi Mat. Of course it doesn't have any primer / filler on there in those photos, but I generally use the same grey 2pack primer as always, sanded with 240 grit prior to doing the 2pack colour top coats. I haven't used rattle cans for many years and probably won't again anytime soon. The 2pack is just a better product for the task at hand.

Here's the primer now:

Still about 0.5kg under the weight allowance, but the colour will chew up a big chunk of that...
Bad weather coming on Friday, so will have to do the top coats tomorrow.

The final weight is 6.6kg, still well under the weight allowance. Now to package it up and send. No idea what it'll cost to ship it to Baltimore...

That's awesome Nic! Thanks for detailing the build along the way. Is the little hole for a rail button or other purpose?

Hi George. There are actually four holes in total and they are for little grub screws to hold the fincan in place on the motor casing. The motor's thrust ring (actually bolts in this case) takes the weight of the fincan, but the grub screws are just to stop it from rotating. I'm not sure it is necessary, but it was a request so I did it for them.

All the best to the team out on the playa this weekend, hoping that it is a glorious flight and there are some good videos 8)

Looked like a perfect flight - congratulations!
Unfortunately, from a post on FB: "The ROCKETS Magazine Project, Black Sheep, was launched successfully on 9-24-16. Unfortunately, the 28' Main Parachute unexpectedly deployed at apogee and the rocket drifted off into the wilderness to the southeast of the launch site. It ... appeared to be all together under chute. Any reports of it's location would be greatly appreciated. The rocket could be 10-30 miles out at an approximate heading of 155 degrees. By the looks of the main deployment, the rocket was at least 40,000' in the air over the Black Rock Desert."
