The Ultimate Buzz

Postby Aquaman33 » Thu Apr 22, 2021 3:55 pm

I like to have a big project simmering in the background. So with the conclusion of my L2 project I decided to build something bigger and hopefully better. A longer rocket with a larger diameter and more fins. :D

After not too much thought I decided on the LOC Ultimate Buzz. An upsized version of the old Yank Enterprises Mystic Buzz. Looks like an SBR Thor or an Athena.

The stats
Just over 2m (7 feet) long.
140mm (5.5") diameter.
3 split fins.
54 or 75mm motor mount.

I will reinforce the fins and tubes with carbon or fiberglass.

This is the image from LOCs website:

I am thinking of more of a retro Estes vibe. Maybe something like this:

I promise to keep this thread shorter than my L2 project.

I'm looking forward to it! I think the forum is better for it , and putting my money where my mouth is , I will be putting 2 builds on here as well. I am starting my lvl 3 with a Katana 6inch from Australian Rocketry as well as a scratch built of my own design which will be my first cluster called Agilis 5.

I am obviously getting ahead of myself here, but I was excited when the decals arrived today.

They are big. Almost 1m long.

They used completely the wrong font, but they still look good, so no drama.

I am still missing a few extra bits and pieces, but here is a look at most of the kit. Pepsi can for scale.

I was excited to discover that the forward body tube and the motor mount tube have both been supplied longer than advertised. A nice bonus that gives me a bit of flexibility.

You can see the shorter tubes in this photo from the LOC website:

Motor retainer or expensive drink holder.

It’s a nice looking kit. So is that the 54 or 75 mm version?

As a bigger kit I take it you’ll be dual deploy? Any details on the avionics?

The 75mm version is shown in the photo, but I also have 54mm centering rings, motor mount tube and motor retainer.

I think I will probably go with 75mm and keep the 54mm stuff for another build.

Yes, definitely dual deploy. Primary and back-up.
I am still testing electronics, but most likely I will use a Public Missiles Co-pilot 2 as the primary with a RRC2+ as back up.
