Liftoff!

Postby PK » Wed Jan 05, 2011 11:17 am

We’re very happy to announce that we’ve finally finished assembling stock and putting a web store together for some of the electronics developed over the last decade or so in this fantastic hobby.
Whooshtronics.com is a NFVMP (guess the acronym or see the homepage) enterprise designed to get our designs into the hands of rocketry enthusiasts everywhere.

Our first offerings are the “EasyAs” 433MHz RDF beacon, and “uMAD” (microMAD) Magnetic Apogee Detector.
Both of these devices have been developed as open source projects on the forums and now we can offer them as built and tested, products. Keep an eye on the site as we intend to bring some more of our stuff to market over the coming year.....

Regards
Mike and Paul

Are you planning on doing anything that transmits on the 2M band rather than the lower powered licence free section of 70cm ??

Probably not. Two main reasons:
1).2m antennae are hard to package in an airframe.
2).RDF isn't the best way to find anything on the ground. If you can recieve an audio signal then you can modulate that audio with some GPS data.

See how we go. I've found a source for some reasonably cheap 477MHz radio's If I can find a GPS that's good enough then we'll produce a few trackers

Thanks Ari. So far so good. We're getting about an order a day at the moment all for multiple units... Selling things on the internet! Who'd have thunk it?

I wish my other business was so easy to run....hmmmm.

Thanks Stewart. That really is what its all about. We're just trying to find a sustainable way to "give" away the circuits to those people who don't want to build them themselves. For us, sustainment means beer! (and the occasional toy helicopter for Mike).

We may still offer things like blank PCB's and kits to those that want to roll their own...see how we go..

Also, as we learn more about the actual costs of running Whooshtronics we'll keep trying to tweak the prices down.
As an example, the international shipping cost dropped by $5 today.
