Rocketfest XVII is on Sunday 21st October 2012

Postby rockets4u » Wed Oct 10, 2012 11:48 pm

Rocketfest XVII is on Sunday 21st October

It must be six months since the last one and a lot has happened:

Two more fliers have joined us, so welcome Nat & Stu, hope you can make it to this one and show us your stuff.

We have discovered the floor of controlled airspace at the pad is 8,500 feet, a tad more than the 400 feet we previously knew was safe. The limiting factor now becomes retrieving rockets and not littering our landlord’s neighbours' properties with pointy litter.

So we can use bigger engines, make more noise & smoke – how terrible!

Rocketfest has always had themes like land it close to the pad, transparent rockets etc, but this timew we are having a nice politically incorrect competition. A Drag Race (sorry can't resist - dress optional) with umpteen rockets being launched simultaneously. There is a $50 prize voucher for the Rocketry Shop sponsored by Karl and the spectators are the judges, so bring your altimeter!

I plan to improve the tag playing rockets, and try some heavy lifting with “Composite” motors with ~3x the power / weight compared to our usual black powder motors.

Also I can now supply a variety of large variety of Motors, Rockets & Launch sets, so if “the kids” don’t want a train set for Christmas, a launch set may be an easy way into the hobby for someone you know. Let me know if you are interested & I will email a price list.

Please come at:

12 Noon - If you are a Flier

1 pm If you just want to watch Rockets.

First rocket flies at 1pm sharp!

Where:
If you have not been before & want to come pls send me a "pm" with your email address, or send an email to rockets4u@optusnet.com.au & I will send the location details.
It’s too far ahead to have any idea about the weather, so just in case, please check back here on Sunday am in case of postponement.

You are invited to fly or watch, be warned though our 20 acre site is not exactly flat and there are a "few" trees, which one of our number specialises in finding, streamers are good!.

Hope to see you there!

I came across something recently which gave me the idea of a solar powered rocket.

Its transducer/concentrator unit has a Darth Vader shaped nose cone, but since he is known more for turning to the dark than the light, I do not plan for that one to fly.

Darth Vader Quotes -
"I find your lack of faith disturbing."
"You don't know the power of the dark side!"

All will be revealed on Sunday.

It's looking pretty mean!! Watch out!!!!

Well Krusty, the grape vine tells me your Rocket is Laser sharp.

What will you get yourself if you win!?

I have just picked up a couple of international visitors from the airport. I think we may have another entry in the drag race. As this will be her maiden rocket should we be chivalrous and not try too hard?

Naa! that would be disrespectful.

Right diameter, wrong length. I was thinking of chopping my other one to do a cut and paste job, but it was pretty late last night at that stage

LOL!

I've got a few handicaps that will probably make up for the lighter load:
1. Camera
2. Glue thats still drying
3. A sticky patch where Australia Post decided to put a big sticker
4. no paint job

So my Cd will probably be much higher than everyone! :D
