Rocketfest XX is on Sunday 21th September 2014

Postby rockets4u » Sun Aug 24, 2014 11:27 pm

Rocketfest XX is on Sunday 21st September 2014 at Eric's pad

Time for a rocketfest.

The theme this time is the “Dunny Roll Rocket” - Fairly self explanatory but we must still have rules to bitch about.

Dunny Roll Rockets

1. Fuselage to be made from Dunny rolls.
2. Other elements made from Dunny rolls or related items – nice to have.
3. The rocket must have a successful flight ie clear the pad, fly for a bit, and operate its recovery system pretty much as planned.
4. Marks out of 10 to be awarded by spectators for the look/creative concept of the rocket.
5. Marks out of 10 to be awarded by spectators for the flight of the rocket.
6. Total marks is the Theme Winner – damm that word again!

Prize: I have a small mystery rocketry tool to donate, useful to scratch builders but hard to find in the shops.

Please come at:

12 Noon - If you are a Flier

1 pm If you just want to watch Rockets.

First rocket flies at 1pm sharp!

Where:
If you have not been before & want to come pls send me a Personal Message - (hit the pm button at the bottom left of this post) with your email address, or send an email to rockets4u@optusnet.com.au & I will send the location details.
It’s too far ahead to have any idea about the weather, so just in case, please check back here on Sunday am in case of postponement.

You are invited to fly or watch, be warned though our 20 acre site is not exactly flat and there are a "few" trees, which one of our number specialises in finding, streamers are good!

Hope to see you there!

Karl called me on the weekend, at last someone cares about the "rules":

Q: What motor can we use?
A: Rocketeer's choice.

BTW, normally I like to build tall story rockets, but this time to show Rocketfest is a fat Church as well as a tall one, I can reveal that the diameter of my dunny roll rocket fuselage is 28cm. Since I am providing the small mystery prize, of course I can't win it, so my ideal result is to win the dunny rocket competition then be disqualified!

What is everyone else building? What secrets can be disclosed?

Also have a think about the theme for next time & feel free to suggest here.

Parish Announcements:

The power will be off on the 21st which should not affect us, except that our landlord recommends using Starling Rd from the Princes Hwy and Tivendale when going back to it due to the chance of trucks & works in progress on Starling Rd.

Rockets4u is doing a rocket display at the Sandown Radio Control Festival, 11 Jan 2015. <https://www.facebook.com/SandownRCFestival> The plan is to drag race RC Helicopter (250 km/h) vs Flying Fox rocket & Scale Model Dragster plus some other mayhem.

The weather is looking good at this stage.

Cheers,

Hi All,

OK! Over the last 6 months I've been saving up bog rolls - and to help with this, I've also adopted a high-fiber diet to make sure that I'm good and regular. You know, just so I can get those extra rolls ;)

So, what have I done with my mound of bog rolls? Well.. I've built two rockets !!

First one is your bog standard (ha! Yeah, that was a pun!) tube fin rocket. The only non-bog roll components are the centering rings and motor tube. All couplers etc. are bog roll. I guess it's about 1m tall.

The second - now, this is where things get exciting - is an X-wing(ish) monster. Comes complete with cockpit and laser cannons!! The only non-bog roll components are the fins (they're balsa), the motor mount and 4 skewers for the lasers :)

Both will go up on a D as this seem to be the motor of choice for a Rocketfest!!

Krusty.

Sounds Interesting...

Good luck though Krusty and anyone else having a go!
MPR cert: Grey Dot on an F52-8T

Level 1 cert: Ok... so maybe I was a little optimistic putting this in. But if I do do it, then it'll be something fast.

Sascha - I've just looked at this Forum and wished I'd tried harder! I'll just have to sabotage your rockets to try and win the competition :-) Cheers, Karl
