that's awesome, you should see the size of the grin on my face after watching that. i'm definitely gonna be at the first serpentine launch day next year :D

The motor at 39 secs is a hybrid, and yes they are freaking awesome!!! 8)

I got all excited when I saw the thread title, thought it was Serpentine in WA, only a few minutes drive from me.... oh well.

Maybe you should get in contact with us here at WARS ..... we have regular launches at our sites in Williams & Grass Valley W.A. ..... as a matter of fact we have our Williams "Wildfire" Westernationals launch on this coming weekend!

Hi Scoop, cheers, I've seen a few WA club websites, including WARS, in my search for one close by.
However, the appeal of a 4-6 hour round trip is low. Very low.

I wish I had of seen your post earlier. I could have given you directions on how to get to Williams without spending 4 hours in a car! Williams is only 1 hour 15 minutes from Serpentine (depending on how fast & which way you go) :shock:

Due to the very nature of rocketry activities, it is HIGHLY unlikely you will find any site less than a hour from a major city. The need to find an area big enough to meet safe distances and fall under a reasonable operating ceiling usually mean that the launch sites are located in rural areas, and if you are looking for a site that permits really high altitudes, they will be quite remote.

Williams is probably the only launch site in Australia that has a standing 18,000 ft ceiling with windows to 25,000 ft and is less than 2 hours drive from the city.
