Based in the greater Melbourne region, MARS is the home of amateur rocketry in Victoria. (Not to be confused with the planet, we are much closer than the planet and operate less rovers)

MARS High Altitude Site

Following the success of MARS hosting the inaugural Victorian round of the AYRC the club continues to push ahead to even greater accomplishments. In the past week, MARS has received access to a second High Power Rocketry (HPR) instrument at a new launch site. The site is located near the rural village of Wychitella located 17 km north of Wedderburn. The instrument allows for flights up to 12,000ft AMSL (11500ft AGL) with higher altitudes being discussed. On Sunday 18th a delegation from MARS visited the launch site and with the new instrument active showed the land owners exactly what it is all about much to their excitement. With the added airspace this site will be the location of the 2017 National Launch hosted by MARS – “Mars Attacks” we look forward to seeing you there.

Many years ago the great British explorer George Mallory, who was to die on Mount Everest, was asked why did he want to climb it. He said, "Because it is there."
