Tents, you sissies!

I struggle with sleeping on the ground. I actually enjoy my first world lifestyle and unlike most people from the first world I don't romanticise sleeping in a bag and forgoing showers!

I'm booked in at the Westmar Roadhouse from the 11th to the 15th with checkout on the 16th. Lamp, I grabbed a double. Nic, you're welcome to a shower mid event when your swampa** becomes unbearable!

CATO, since you've been to the launch site, could you share a Google Maps pin or a lat/long so all of us currently completely in the dark can be slightly less so?

I'll check out the Westmar Roadhouse and the Royal - have a whole family to accommodate (with the possibility of another friend and his kids too), so I may need to look around a bit!

Gents, I have stayed at both the Meandarra hotel and the Westmar roadhouse

The hotel is cheapest by far but is very basic (old country pub) and is about one hour's drive from the entrance to the launch site property (it's another 10 - 15 minutes drive into the launch site)
Roadhouse is relatively expensive but very good (it has air conditioning) and is about 20 - 30 minutes from the property entrance.

Really, it's price verses relative comfort and driving distance.

Across the road from the roadhouse is a free-stay camping area with one shower/toilet if you into caravaning. There is also the option to hire a camper van (with shower/toilet) and take it to the launch site.

Once more, it's cost v convenience.

If anyone wants to camp but is worried about showers, I have a hot water system, shower and tent you can use. Just bring your own water. You need about 5-10 litres each. Kathy and I use about 10 litres between us, and that's with me washing my long hair. One of those 20L cubes from Rays should keep you sorted for a few days. Even though we're standing in a paddock all day, you won't get that dirty. Unless you're Blake and need to dig your rocket out of three feet of clay. ;)

Still on the sanitation thing, Meandarra has a dunny dump station at the museum if you prefer to use your own chemical toilet while at Thunda.

Thanks Drew! :D

When I was younger I would think nothing of throwing out a sleeping bag and sleeping under the stars, these days I am getting old and I like my creature comforts!

You guys wanting to use tents are so slack. What ever happened to the "Aussie way" of a swag! They are a great way to sleep under the stars.

BTW, I'm taking a tent...

I would highly recommend NOT hiring one of these... They are comfortable enough to sleep in, but driving it down the Moonie Highway, I thought I was going to die!

Does anyone want to go halves with me on a campervan with all the "soft c**k" essentials (i.e. shower, toilet, stove, bed)? It looks like a camper with these amenities starts at around $750 for 6 days (Wednesday 11th to Monday 16th March).

Hey Mike,

Do you have details where you are thinking of picking something like that up?
I will be driving across from WA, and our plan was to pick up an RV from somewhere

What's that Scoop, you're going to pick up a pussy wagon! I thought a young fella like you would just use a Bundy bottle for a pillow and the contents for warmth in order to get a good nights sleep
I have an excuse, I'm old...

It's not for me ...... It for the missus!
She needs a little bit of luxury for her to be able to create the sumptuous feasts in a paddock that many have become accustomed to.

I'll stake a claim on a bed in the "pussy wagon" but will most likely get ejected to the trailer due to snoring!

An hour web surfing yesterday indicated that appropriately named Apollo campervans was the least expensive provider for the type of camper I was looking for. They're located 6.5km from the Brisbane Airport. Their website estimates this is a $25 taxi fare. Anyhow, here's a link to the Brisbane centre on their website:

Bye,
Mike
