Liquid Density Experiment

Happy new year everyone. I've finally finished a video from last September for a question that often comes up in water rocket discussions ... "Can you add something to the water to make it go higher?" We looked at the liquid density question in some detail and also performed a number of experiments:

Very well executed experiment George !

It seems the experiments agreed with the theory pretty well.

Have you done a similar one relating to pressure ? ie energy increase vs vehicle mass ?

The next step of course is some form of monopropellant comparison eg cold gas system such as CO2 or N2O :-)

Thanks Craig, we haven't done a detailed experiment relating to pressure and vehicle mass, but it is something we should have a look at in the future. We do want to try a water rocket with different gases as simulator predictions suggest measurable differences between air, co2 and helium. He is about 25% lower altitude, and Co2 is about 12% more altitude.
We have done an air only test and it achieves only about 40% of the altitude of what a water/air combination achieves at the same pressure.
What may be interesting is to try different gases in a foam format to see how they behave.
