Three weeks to go until MARS Attacks!!! - I'm getting excited now...

We've just confirmed that there will be a fireworks show at the Saturday night booze-up, which should be a lot of fun for the little kids (and us slightly older kids!). For those interested in seeing how another branch of rocketry works; we can show you the set-up on the Saturday afternoon.

Actually, looking at the booking numbers, I'm surprised there are not more spectator bookings. This is a family and friends welcoming event! It's a great way to showcase our hobby to your buddies (who often look at you strangely when you try and explain rocketry!). One of my mates is coming just so he can go camping with his son for the first time.

Also T-shirt orders need to be in by the end of the month - don't miss out on this year's number one fashion statement :-)

A few people have been asking for directions to the field at Wychitella... Our main headquarters for the event will be the very welcoming Wychitella Pub, where we will have lots of information posted about locations, contact numbers, event times, etc. It will also be where the Saturday night banquet will be held. It's very convenient as it is just a few kilometres from the launch site. You can fly a rocket, and then be sipping a cool one at the bar within five minutes - beat that, Thunda, Williams, or Tripoli! :-)

So aim to make the Wychitella Pub your first stop on arrival in town on the 12th - you can't miss it; there's only half a dozen buildings in the whole place!

Whilst the pub is close and a fantastic addition to the best launch site in Victoria, you clearly have forgotten the Rocket Fuel Bar (and Bistro... minus the bistro) haha.

I heard the Saturday night banquet tickets are getting low. Wouldn't want to miss that one and the fireworks afterwards ;-)

Sorry - as a couple of people have pointed out to me, I forgot about the 'Rocket Fuel Bar' at Thunda (although my liver may never forget!).

Today's announcement is about trying to get bookings finalised... the bargain-sale prices finish on Monday, and we won't be taking anymore meal bookings after the following Monday. So get a move along fellas'!

Today we're talking prizes. There will be lots of DVDs of 'MARS Attacks' (the Hollywood Movie) to be won at the event, plus T-shirts and other giveaways, but there will also be a couple of very special awards, including...
We are very proud to announce the 'Melbourne Amateur Rocket Society Golden Rocket' award.

This award will go to the best rocket at the event, as voted BY FLYERS, and will be presented along with a certificate at the Saturday Night Banquet. The term 'best rocket' is deliberately subjective and vague, and you can vote for any reason you like; fastest, biggest, best electronics, unique feature, or even prettiest! This solid brass rocket has been specially cast for MARS Attacks, and if you win, it will be a spectacular showpiece in your office or on your mantelpiece - and a great reminder that YOU were Australia's #1 rocketeer for 2017 :-)

That looks suspiciously like the kind of prize that would reasonably be awarded to the guy who dreamed up the 1 to 1 scale V2. Particularly when you announce the 2 times upscale of that project. :mrgreen:

Hey Rocketeers... just keeping the hype going! The seven-day weather report is looking great for the weekend, so this is really going to happen baby!! All the planning is going like clockwork, and the local farmer and publican couldn't be better, or more helpful. There will be a huge campfire on Saturday night so bring way too much booze, cigars, and marshmallows if that's your thing. :-)
The other big award at this festival of rocketry; is the inaugural AMRS 'Mach-Diamond Award' for services to Australian rocketry.

This beautiful award has been donated by the venerable Victorian rocketeer Glenn Rodgers, and this year (and in the future) will help recognise some of our buddies who do so much for our hobby, but often go unrecognised.
