Mylar Parachutes

Postby Aquaman33 » Fri Jul 06, 2018 8:42 am

Hi all,

I need a couple of mylar parachutes for some projects I am working in.

I have ordered some 18 inch ones from Ausrocketry, but I think I need something bigger.

Any ideas where I can buy either larger ready made parachutes or sheets of the appropriate mylar?

There is loads of different types of Mylar on Ebay but I am not sure if its strong enough to make a parachute.
For example this stuff: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Hydroponic-Highly-Reflective-Garden-Wall-Mylar-Film-Covering-Sheet-210cm-x-120cm/232642363692?epid=2284721738&hash=item362a90c12c:g:rD4AAOSwoddaXce4

The description says its "PETP (polyethylene glycol terephthalate) Film" and it weighs about 19g per square meter.

If anyone has any experience I would be keen to hear your thoughts.

Thanks.

Haven’t tried these myself but have heard that ‘space’ blankets are meant to be a suitable source.

Thanks vance2loud.

I have ordered some of these from Ebay:

Hopefully they will be strong enough.
