Source for Resin Flow Media for Vacuum Infusion in Aus?

Postby Space Mark » Tue Mar 25, 2014 11:28 am

I've been experimenting with vacuum infusion, however have gotten to the point that I need flow media to be able to proceed any further.

Does anyone know a supplier of flow media in Australia - or something that looks like flow media (just woven nylon/polypropylene/polyethylene mesh)?

Something like the flow media here:
http://www.fibreglast.com/category/Vacu ... m_Infusion

or here:
http://www.carbonfiberglass.com/Vacuum- ... flow-media

I realise this is probably the wrong forum, but the spirit of this forum seems to suit ;)

Mark, the guys I deal with regularly reckon using 3mm Soric SF works well, making sure you get the SF as it has the highest resin absorbtion rate of the range and hence is good at transporting resin. I have not tried this, though. I believe you can get Soric from Nuplex a.k.a. Fiberglass International, but probably several other places would sell it too.

Cheers

Thanks Nic, I'm looking more for flow media/mesh than core material at this point, however that stuff looks like it could be really cool for fins and uavs/planes. As a reference for price comparison, one of the first google results I had - easycomposites.co.uk - have the core material you mentioned for GBP12/m, and infusion mesh for GBP2.40/m

FGRS suggested I contact Summit Composites as supposedly they do infusion supplies - I've sent them an email so will see what they come up with. They are 10 mins from home, and kinda sorta almost on my route to/from work. If I dont hear back from them or they say nay - I'll talk to the guys you mentioned, thanks!

Kirkside finally emailed me back:
Hi Mark

Unfortunately we do not have any infusion medium.

Mainly due to people using shade cloth for this purpose.

Yep. Shadecloth works

I was expecting that it would get squashed by the compression of the vacuum, guess not. I'll give it a shot.
